SHELVING & STORAGE

I don't know why I am suddenly so into book shelves and storage solutions. I came across these pictures on Pinterest and they immediately catched my attention. Also, notice that they are all very simple and WHITE solutions. I mean, cmoon, I am not a person who is into white, I am always into colours. At least usually. That's why I am confused even myself, why these pictures fascinate me that much in first place. As my beibs laughs at me, I'm having some weird white and in some way minimalistic season!

Anyhow, I have been working a lot on furnishing and storage solutions this autumn, since I do plenty interviews for my thesis on interior design software, and I also work on a project for Kaapeli which is a lot to do with finding the right storage solutions. So maybe my subconscious processes all the information that I work on on a daily basis, and then it appears as inspirational pictures in my blog postings!

One really positive surprise for me in storage solutions has been Lundia. They are traditional Finnish furniture company but in my opinion they convey an image of traditional Finnish design furniture yet with a twist of innovation. I have to say they have done fabulous job with marketing and sales strategy, and their collections look really nice, their webpage is very intuitive, aaaand they use a 3D design tool to let the customers to play around with visualizations of possible interior solutions. Which is kind of really cool. And it's also the core of my thesis!

Maybe one day I'll notice that I have adopted a bookshelf back into my interiors at home. Cause these pictures look fabulous to me. And I'd love to collect all sort of small and cool items from the flea markets to injcorporate them as part of the shelving design.

ISKU SHOWROOM OPENING

While my studies I never thought what would it mean to be writing Master's Thesis. I just postponed thinking about it. However, in the end of this summer I found myself in a situation where I had finished all my courses and was left with only thesis to write. I spent all the summer really really - I mean REALLY - thinking about topics I would want to write about. I knew I am excited about interior design and I knew I could combine my business background to it. Once we were sipping coffee at a good friend's place and I asked him to help me out with my topic ideation. He gave me an advice to write about interior design software and since then I have really dug into technology and its role in interior.

Thesis time has been very controversial for me. I adore my subject but I am not at all a person who is able to sit down, read, concentrate and produce formal documents. I need to hustle and do things my own way. This hustling has lead me to meet incredible companies and people in the interior field of Finland.

This Wednesday my thesis lead me to Isku's Showroom opening in Espoo. It was an event for interior designers, architects and partners. I had plenty of fun and Isku's Showroom looks really cozy and it has plenty of different styles showcased over there. I took some photos of details that I enjoyed and now sharing them with you!

CANDLES AND COSYNESS

The autumn has really hit Helsinki and I somehow feel like postponing my thesis writing and going home to cuddle in the candle light. When I think of it..... I don't even need my darling to be home with me cuddling! I could as well pour a glass of red wine, put some smoky blues music and read a book or a magazine.

Living in South of France was amazing not only because it was my exchange-country but also because it was always warm and sunny there. It's such an amazing feeling to wake up to the sunshine. Okay, this past week has been really sunny in Helsinki as well, but realizing that it gets dark 7pm has been really depressing. And it will get only darker. Suddenly, I have too much time in the evening to be spent at home waiting when it is allowed to press your head to the pillow.

I am seriously not a fan of dark nor cold. I need the warmth and the light to be alive and kicking! Cosy sweaters help to stand the cold and Sexy Mexican is definitely lighting up my days with his outstanding humour. (Pus you!) Oh and I do have my Valkee earplugs! Almost forgot them! They seriously saved my last winter from deep depression! (12 minutes of warm light in your ears and you feel like an energizer!)

Few days back I was sitting at my friend's place. She had just got back from Istanbul with luggage full of lukum and Turkish chai. That moment was perfect. For the first time (and last so far) I felt that autumn could be fun after all.

DINE WITH ME

I am dreaming about more dinners with friends and family. I love the cosy atmosphere what your loved ones bring to the table. Not that it matters how the physical environment looks like when you are in a good company but my style-loving inner-Erika is craving to be surrounded by stylish dining setting.

If I ever move into a big house (apartment might work as well) I will have a big long dining table with stylish chairs for all my friends who shall visit me. Even though I am not a big fan of cooking, I just love throwing dinner parties and sitting together chit chatting and sipping wine from my favorite wine glasses.

Since my family has always lived separately in different countries, I have envied my friends who have the possibility of Sunday dinners with their family. I promised myself already ages ago that when I will create family of my own, I will value so much the dinners spent together. It might be that I will be the only one insisting on eating together but I will solve that issue when the time is right!

WORKSPACE

Your own workspace has to inspire you. I have come across this topic lately a lot since I have been thinking quite actively of how to be motivated with my upcoming Master's Thesis autumn. Having a cozy workspace is definitely one big factor.

I personally find it difficult to work from home, no matter is it school or work related tasks. It usually  feels difficult for me to concentrate on something when I have so many other things at home. In these cases I believe that having a physical spot that is dedicated for work helps a lot.

Many of the pics below have some green at the workspace. That is something that I am missing from mine and I am seriously considering of adding a plant or two! Though my desk is not close to window so they might as well die in a week.

In future, I'd love to have a real home office. I do have a spot for work but neither me or my boyfriend use it properly (unless storage and morning coffee cup holder counts). Though this spot was not even designed to be a proper "home office". Anyways, if I had a real home office, I would make it a statement of my persona. I'd love it to tell something about myself to the others. Maybe that's why I also reeeally enjoy inspirational quotes, statements and posters. It might be just my own opinion, but I think those little things tell a lot about the person who works from that spot.

CRYSTAL CHANDELIERS

I grew up  in a home where crystal chandelier decorated our living room for as long as I remember. It was so simple and elegant and even when after years it started falling apart crystal by crystal, I still deeply loved it and didn't want to throw it away. With Mom we would stitch together the hanging circles (that worked as basis of the chandelier) with all sorts of tricks.

Nowadays crystal chandeliers are not only those old fashioned and bling-bling Russian tacky versions. Check out the photos below and pay attention on how even very traditional chandelier can work well in both classy, rustic and minimalistic rooms. Of course the chandelier changes the atmosphere yet I believe that's the whole point. By adding a super-duper classic crystal chandelier into a very otherwise different interior, you can create a fantastic combo that fascinates and states brave and bold combo.

When we moved in our present home I said to my darling: "The only lamp that is gonna hang from our ceiling is a chandelier". I really wanted to add the sparkle of crystals. I got through with my wish but I had to choose a very modern version that felt manly enough for my beibs. I'm still deeply satisfied by the fact that I have one!

Oh and you asked what happened to the chandelier at my childhood home? It's still there! Unfortunately not hanging anymore from the ceiling but we have packaged it in a box and put aside, not wanting to throw it away. Maybe one day it will be my new project to disassemble it and re-gather it with new pieces.
