STATEMENT CHAIRS

I adore statement jewellery because it is such a simple and easy way to add sparkle to otherwise quite-alright entity.

This post was inspired by our tiny boring spot in the entrance of our home. We have lived in our present home since last November and since then I have been trying semi-actively to figure out what to do with the spot. It is a piece of wall where we have humongous horizontal mirror on the level of shoulders. We have build-in closet's doors minimizing the space. Statement chair is an option that is not leaving my thoughts. Unfortunately as said the space is quite minimal and fitting a chair is quite a challenge.

If I could add just half a meter more to our entrance, I would squeeze under the big horizontal mirror a statement chair similar to the one in the first picture. It's my absolute favorite out of these pics! Even our entrance walls are the same colour as in the picture. (Well our are maybe slightly more blue yet I would prefer them being exactly as in the picture! ) Now I just need to find that chair.

Here are some chairs that I fancy. Not all would fit my style yet sometimes it's fun just to ideate on wild interiors ideas. Imagine how one of these chairs could change the whole atmosphere in a room!  Just saying!

POLKA DOTS

Polka dots have been back to business for a while now. I never understood the whole buzz around polka dots since they remind me of childhood summers spent at my grandparents in Ukraine. Put in other words, I totally did not find them fashionable. In ANY way.

I  was living with this mindset for years. Until I suddenly, totally accidentally, found a cute polka dot blouse in a tiny boutique in France.  I never thought I would own one but for some reason I totally adored the red blouse with white and black dots. I remember thinking that "I will never use this anywhere". However, I was totally wrong, both about not using the blouse and polka being only a bad memory from childhood.

Since I had seen so many seriously bad version of polka dots (imagine Russian Babushka  in Ukrainian countryside), I never thought it would become a fashion trend, not to mention an active piece in my own wardrobe!

How to create the look?

Decide which piece is the one with dots.If you go with pants or skirt, combine the outfit with simple top or fluffy blouse. Since the dots are so "in your face" try avoiding the other piece being too busy. Always aim for balance in the outfit.

I would propose a combo where the dotted piece is the blouse. Combine it with simple skirt or pants. My proposition is to combine it with jeans skirt to make the look very laid back and relaxed. Since I like bold statements in my outfits, I would myself combine this outfit with red heels and red lips. Red lipstick is also easily replaced by red clutch!

You can always play with jewellery as well. Add gold statements if you want to aim for more glam Riviera style!

RED WALLS

I can't say red is my favourite colour yet it definitely is a colour I would pick to add dramatic atmosphere in the room.

Now that I think about it, red is one of the biggest design elements in our own home. We have humongous red carpet and several other objects to tie the entity together. In kitchen,  we have red chairs and red kitchen lamp. We also use other small decorative red elements through out the whole apartment. Even our kitchen painting has red borders. Just realized that! It sounds like too much red but we have combined it with elements of pure white, black and gold. The combo might be too Russian for somebody but we find it really cosy and it definitely feels like our home. I assure you, it's all in balance!

Concerning red as interiors choice, I see it perfectly fine in kitchen. Even in bedroom I think red focus walls can be really chic (or not). However, I am totally in love with full-red bathrooms. Especially the first picture is absolutely gorgeous. And of course I would have also the crystal chandelier to ad chic to the entity! I was just about to say that I would have to negotiate with my darling but then I realized that red is his favorite colour and it would be absolutely no problem to add just a little bit more of that colour to our home!

COSY WHITE

I really enjoy organizing. The more organized the place looks, the calmer is my mind. White interiors looks clean and pure but I would not decorate my own home with white interiors.

Especially ALL white -interiors is totally not for me. It looks great but it lacks warmth and marks of life. Or if it does have marks of life then it is coffee spills and THAT is totally not cool. I need to be able to cuddle on sofa and feel comfy in the chairs without thinking whether I can even touch them.

All white is great for Scandinavian interiors magazine but not for my daily life. Though I am not against white. Not at all. I find it extremely elegant when combined for example with black touches.  White can function as great basis to build on. Actually our closet is white with big black mirror doors (we though we are oh-so-brave with our interiors choice). Also I enjoy white walls or white (big and puffy) sofas. Even though I already have had a white sofa (not the big and puffy one) and that did totally not last for long...

I have friends who absolutely crave for white floor. To be honest, it has never been my thing. It might look fantastic in the end result if combined with some fancy elements but it's not something I crave for. I am much more towards dark shades for floor. Once again, I don't want to see too much white!

So to conclude, I really love the purity and clean "atmosphere" of white yet I believe ALL white is just too white. Let me know if you think all white is cool! Maybe I will need to change my mind!
